In Conversation with Valerio Sommella
On creating a collection through simple repeated forms, material exploration, and objects that feel both innovative and immediately familiar.
I strive to create products that, while offering innovation in form and language, always retain a sense of familiarity and an immediate connection with the people who use them.Valerio Sommella
MATERIALS AS A DESIGN LANGUAGE
Rather than beginning with form alone, Valerio Sommella approaches each project through the possibilities offered by material. Working with natural stone, solid oak, and contemporary production techniques, he explores how simple elements can be repeated, refined, and brought together into one coherent design language. For Sommella, materials are not decorative finishes—they are essential components that shape the identity, character, and familiarity of every object.
